Paper Bags and Green Movement

Green movement has been around for quite some time. This ideology is rooted towards caring for the environment through finding eco-friendly alternatives to common human practices. Despite being around for a long time, it is only recently that the ideology is becoming mainstream. The surge in popularity of the movement can be attributed to two reasons.

The first reason is that environmental changes are becoming more apparent. People are more aware and are concerned with the changing climate and environmental damage all around them. The result is people are acting on it. The second reason is that science and technology has finally advanced enough that there are now viable alternatives or replacements to the old practices. So what do paper bags have to do with the movement? The modern paper bags mirrors the growth of the movement. In the past, paper bags were the primary carrier bags of choice for shopping and other tasks that involved carrying items. The development of plastic replaced paper as the main material for carrier bags. Paper required cutting down of trees while the raw material for plastic was easier and cheaper to obtain. The pollution created in the production of plastic bags and the difficulty related to its disposal resulted to it falling out of favor. Meanwhile, the advancements in recycling and innovations regarding the use of renewable materials has resulted to paper bouncing back as the environment friendly solution for carrier bags. Many modern paper bags are made of recycled materials while others are made of bamboo which are fast and easy to grow. The modern paper bag is a good example of exploring past practices and making changes to it that makes it beneficial to the environment.
